Frequently Asked Questions

What do I do if my child is ill and cannot come to school?

We ask you to telephone and leave a message on the answerphone before the start of school.

What happens if want my child to leave school early for an appointment?

A simple note is required, and then an adult must collect the child from the school office and sign the child out.  Parents should avoid, if at all possible, making medical/dental appointments for their child during school hours

Can my children take a holiday in term time?

Every lesson counts
The school attendance media campaign was launched on the 15th November 2005 to raise awareness of the negative impact that missing school can have socially, academically and on the long-term future for young people.

We ask you to think seriously about taking your child away from school during term time. We ask parents not to take children out of school in the Y6 because of the important Key Stage 2 tests which take place in the Spring Term. All authorised absence for annual holidays is at the headteacher's discretion and should only be granted on grounds of exceptional circumstances - an example given is when a father works abroad and leave is granted so that parents and children have time together.

Please read our attendance policy

My child might have Special Educational Needs, what should I do?

Firstly you should talk to the class teacher, they should be able to explain what is being done to meet your child's needs.  They can arrange for you to meet with the SENCO.  This is the teacher who  in this School has responsibility for monitoring all SEN issues and providing parents with support.  This teacher also implements and monitors all Individual Educational Plans and works with teachers to ensure they are delivered in the classroom.

If for any reason you are concerned about the progress your child is making, or feel that he or she is struggling with a particular area such as reading or maths, your first point of contact should be your class teacher. If the teacher has a concern, she will contact you and a meeting will be arranged between parents, teacher and Mrs Meeson. Many children receive additional support for a short period of time and are then removed from the SEN register once it is clear that they have made significant progress.

If none of this satisfies you,  then please make an appointment to see the Head, who is always willing and pleased to discuss any issue of concern to parents and their children.

The LEA also runs a service called 'The Parent Partnership Service' who can provide independent advice and support for parents of children with special educational needs.

They have a Helpline which is open on Wenesday and Friday between 10.00am and 1.00pm. (This is term time only). The telephone number is: 01724 277665 or 07989 409322.

What should I do if my child needs to take medication during the school day?

We are only able to administer medication if the prescription is for 4 times a day. We can administer 1 dose at a lunchtime. We ask that if your child needs any fom of medication, you should complete a form held by Mrs Cook. This ensures that your child has the correct dosage.
