Headteacher: Mrs J M Moorhouse

Dear Parents/Carers

Welcome and thank you for taking the time to read our Prospectus. I am pleased to have this opportunity to tell you about our school and hope it will give you an insight into the wide range of opportunities offered to every pupil. We hope you will find this booklet a useful introduction to the school, but if there is anything else you would like to know, please don't hesitate to ask. You are always welcome to telephone or visit the school.

At Holme Valley Primary School , we aim to provide the very highest standards of education. All the staff have high expectations of the children and themselves, and work closely together to ensure each child achieves his or her full potential.

We value academic achievement highly, but believe a school should take a broader view than that. Our school encourages the development of tolerance, respect, perseverance and a sense of commitment. It also emphasizes the importance of caring, sharing and learning to work and play together in a secure and happy environment; skills and attitudes which will be important in later life.

Our last inspection was in February 2006 and, as you will see in the enclosed summary report, it highlighted, among other things, the high standards of teaching and the good behaviour and high achievements of the children. It also graded the way we care for the children as a Grade 1 (outstanding).

In 2007, our school was awarded the ‘Basic Skills Quality Mark' for the third time. This is a recognised award presented in acknowledgement of the quality of teaching and learning in literacy and numeracy. In June 2007 Holme Valley was awarded an ‘Artsmark Gold' award from the Arts Council. In August 2005 we were awarded the ‘Activemark Gold' for the second time by the Sports Council in respect of the sports provision within the school and in July 2006 we were also pleased to be awarded ‘National Healthy Schools Status'. In recognition of the work the school does to promote the international perspective, we were awarded the prestigious ‘International Award' by the British Council in September 2006. The prestigious Investors In People award (June 2007) shows that Holme Valley is committed to supporting all areas of the school community. The Inclusion Quality Mark (July 2007) was awarded in recognition of how the schools works towards meeting the needs of all its pupils. The Becta ICT Mark was granted to us in 2007 for demonstrating commitment to continual improvement through ICT.

Although we are very proud of this national recognition we have not become complacent and are always working towards improvement. We cannot do this alone. We believe you, as parents or carers, have a very important role to play and we actively encourage close co-operation between home and school. We value and build on the experience and knowledge that children bring from home, and share with you the responsibility for ensuring that your child enjoys the very best primary education; an education that provides firm foundations on which to build success in the future.

By working together we can make sure this happens.

Yours sincerely

J M Moorhouse
