Uniform

Uniformity gives us identity as a school, reduces instances of bullying and has a significant impact on school behaviour. We strive for all students to take a pride in their appearance and prepare themselves for the transition to secondary school where strict uniform requirements also apply.

The standard of uniform at Holme Valley is high and in our opinion this plays a large part in helping to maintain other standards. The school is very appreciative of the support which parents have always given us in this area. Some children will try to persuade parents that certain items of clothing are suitable for school, when in fact they are not. Parents are requested, therefore, to comply with the following regulations.

Holme Valley Uniform

Skirts must be plain grey or black and no more than 5cm above the knee. Tight fitting, lycra skirts are not suitable as they restrict movement.

Trousers must be plain grey or black. These must be straight leg or boot cut rather than skinny trousers.

Shirt/Blouse/Polo shirt must be plain white, Sky blue, or royal blue in colour.

Round neck sweatshirt or cardigan in royal blue, either plain or bearing the school logo.

Socks or tights must be plain white, grey or black.

Summer wear - A royal blue gingham dress or knee length grey shorts may be worn during warm weather. These items are optional.

Book Bag - A Holme Valley branded book bag is given free of charge to all reception children as they join the school to help to keep their reading books in good condition.

Clothing for PE

Children need a change of clothes and footwear for P.E for health and hygiene reasons.

Indoor - Plain black leotard (no markings) or plain black PE shorts and white T-Shirt.

Outdoor -  Black shorts and white t-shirt

Trainers/black plimsolls – not shoes worn during the school day

Tracksuit – advisable in cold weather

Spare PE kit is available at school if a child forgets their own kit. Please ensure any borrowed items are returned to school.

Branded Items

Sweatshirts, cardigans and polo shirts with the school logo printed on them are available to purchase from SHAS in Scunthorpe or online at www.shahsuniform.co.uk or from Wovina online at www.wovina.com .These items are optional. The above suppliers may also sell other optional items with the school logo on.

PUPILS’ NAME SHOULD BE ON ALL ARTICLES OF CLOTHING

Second hand Uniform

During the summer term, the school will hold a second hand uniform sale. The dates for this will be shared with parents and prospective new parents before the event. As well as helping to save money, the second hand uniform sale also supports our Environment driver.

Hairstyles

Hairstyles should be appropriate for a school setting. No artificial colour/bleach or temporary extensions/braiding or shaved partings, lines or designs are permitted. Hair styles should not include noticeable variations in length eg when the sides/back are shorter than the hair on top. Long hair should be tied back. In all matters the Headteacher makes the final decision.

All children with long hair should have their hair tied back. Hair bands, ribbons/bows or ‘scrunchies’ should be small, plain and either blue or black. Hair bands should not have large flowers attached.

Jewellery

For health and safety reasons, jewellery should not be worn in school. The exceptions to this rule are ear-ring studs in pierced ears, watches and small objects of religious significance. If ears are pierced, only one set of plain gold or silver studs is acceptable. If your child has pierced ears they must remove their earrings for PE as they are dangerous and may cause injury. Plasters to cover earrings are not permitted as this does not prevent injury from occurring. Parents must ensure that children can take out their earrings or they should not wear them to school.  If a child wishes to have their ears pierced we recommend that they have this done during the 6 weeks summer school holidays, so that on their return they are able to remove them for PE.  Teachers are not permitted to remove earrings. The children will be responsible for their safe keeping.

Make-up and Nail Varnish

Make up and nail varnish should not be worn to school unless for an out of school hours function, for example a school disco.

School Shoes

Appropriate School Shoes will:

  • Be made of leather or leather effect(no suede or canvas material are permitted)
  • Have a rigid sole or heel (no soft soles or high heels)
  • Have no sporting logo or coloured stripes on them
  • Not to be tennis shoes, plimsolls or trainers
  • Be all black
  • Extend no higher than the ankle (no boots)

In all matters, the Headteacher will make the final decision.
