Welcome to Holme Valley Primary School.

The Reception year is a very important time for your child at school and a very special time for you as parents and carers. We want to ensure that your child’s transition to school is a positive experience and runs as smoothly as possible for everyone. As a starting point, we have set up this page on our school website, dedicated to sharing information for our families of new starters.

If you are considering Holme Valley Primary School as a potential school for your child in September 2027, we are offering you the opportunity to come and have a tour of our school and ask any questions you may have.

These sessions are taking place on the following dates and you can book a place via the school office on 01724 842152:

Wednesday 14th October 2026 – 10.00am

Thursday 15th October 2026 – 10.00am

Friday 16th October 2026 – 10.00am

Tuesday 20th October 2026 – 10.00am

Thursday 22nd October 2026 – 10.00am

Wednesday 4th November 2026 – 10.00am and 1.30pm

Thursday 5th November 2026 – 10.00am and 1.30pm

Our transition dates for 2027, for children who are allocated a place at Holme Valley Primary, are below:

  • Reception Transition Session 1 - Saturday 22nd May 2027
  • Transition Session 2 (Routines and expectations) - w/c 7th June 2027
  • Transition Session 3 (Phonics and EYFS Curriculum) - w/c 21st June 2027
  • Home visits to be done by teachers – w/c 12th July 2027
  • Teddy Bears Picnic – 12th or 13th July 2027

We have also uploaded some other useful information which will help you to support your child with their transition to school and to help you to feel prepared for this important stage in your child’s life.
