At Holme Valley, we aim for our children to be able to think and solve problems mathematically by using appropriate skills, concepts and knowledge.
We do this by providing them with rich and enjoyable experiences in all aspects of maths, leading to our children having positive attitudes and the self-confidence needed to deal with an array of mathematical problems.
By working through different tasks which require our children to deepen their knowledge, our children are able to work systematically, cooperatively, logically, independently and with perseverance. We encourage the use of mental calculations and support children in developing efficient strategies to work out answers and provide opportunities for children to communicate their ideas, experiences and questions using appropriate mathematical language.
In EYFS, White Rose Maths (alongside Numicon) is used to support children’s initial experiences in maths and throughout the school we encourage the use of practical resources and outdoor learning to develop knowledge further.
If you require any further information about our maths curriculum, please contact the school office and our subject leader will get back to you.
